  •   Yesterday afternoon Doyle and Peter harvested our corn.  It was the worst harvest we've ever had for corn.  It was so pathetic I still can't believe it, none of us can.  Peter said it was a good thing we weren't depending on it to feed us this winter or we'd all starve.  We got 31 bags (quart) of corn, and I split them between Heather and Peter and us.  Usually it takes all afternoon to harvest the corn and put it up, yesterday it took just an hour or two.  We have however grown good beets, carrots, turnips, and  tomatoes (if they have time to ripen before it freezes).
Almost everyone we have talked to this year has said it was their worst garden ever.  I hope it's not a harbinger of things to come.

  • Hi Brenda ~ It's been ages since I've been around. I see you have 3 grandchildren now! Congratulations! We are expecting a younger brother for Tristen on Oct. 9th. (She will turn 6 about 2 weeks before he is due to come on the scene.

I read back through one of your April blogs to catch up on your happenings. I think that I may use this format you use, if I can discipline myself to do it this way. I like the short blogs, with highlights, & pictures -- and then you do them more often that way. With trying to do Facebook and Xanga (with a very small side of Twitter!!), and the private teaching that I still do, and the children's mid-week class that I prepare for and teach each week at church, this just might be the way for me to go. I really love blogging and reading blogs; I am trying to come around more often to some of my Xanga friends who still blog.  So ~ I'll see you again sometime in the next few weeks.   Till later ~ Carolyn   -- p.s. - What is the new employment started up by Doyle and you?
