  • Doyle has connected us up to the internet once again at Old Faithful.  It's nice being able to check things out here at the store again.  And when there aren't many customers, I can check email and get caught up on things here at work, instead of going home and doing, something I hate doing.  Poor Doyle is sick but he still came in and got me connected.  He's a good man, and a good man is hard to find......you know!

There was some confusion about my last entry.  So to clear things up.......I volunteer once a week at a thrift store in Aztec.  And I am a partner in Old Faithful Antiques.  The antique store is closing down Dec. 31st.  The thrift store will be moving to a new building in January.  So, two different moves, two different stores.  I love volunteering at the thrift store.  I love to volunteer and I love to feel like I'm helping put clothing and household items into people's hands that may not otherwise be able to afford the things.  My heart has always been to help the "working poor".

Thanksgiving is almost upon us.  Christmas is not far behind.  Then we will be at the door of a New Year.  I can remember my mom talking about "being chased."  I know what that means now.  It's not a very fun feeling.  I don't think it's how  God wants us to feel.

It's finally quiet in the store.  I like it quiet although it does mean no one is buying stuff!    But you can't always have everything, can you?

I was back at the thriftstore today after a month off.  The ladies were glad to see me, it's so nice to be appreciated!  Big news of the day..........the new building was finally approved after about two years of "negotiations" and mostly "ignoration" (my new word for the powers at be ignoring little peons like us).  It ended up being rather anti-climatic as such things can be, when you've wanted it for so long......the electric was in, the plumbing was in, the gas was in, the inspections were mostly done, but the county just wouldn't sign off on the building.   At lunch we finally told Betty to call Ken every day until he finally signed off on the building.  She called today and asked the office if she could speak to Ken, he talked to her and  told her we could move in!  Wow!  Yes, what a relief it is!  We will probably start moving things over, but not open the new store until February sometime....

At lunch we hashed out the problems of the world, church and the ..........., as we see it.  After talking about how we'd run things, I told the ladies that we need to write a column in the local paper giving our  pertinent advice for the forlorn and lovelorn, it would become nationally syndicated and then we'd become well known, end up on our own talk show, maybe even Oprah, and the world's problems would be solved........all because four little old ladies (some older than others) working in a non-descript thriftstore, knew how to solve everyone's problems............just ask us.....(umm........maybe not!)

It was good to be back at our little thrift store, working, talking and playing Tri-dominoes on our break!

Jonathan  was excited about jello for dessert.  His Mommy showed him the wiggly, red jello and told him he could have it for dessert when he finished his dinner.  “Doesn’t it look pretty and inviting to eat?”, she said.   Jonathan thought so; he was excited to try this new dessert.  Anything this pretty and red had to taste like raspberries from Paca’s raspberry bushes.  He knew those red gems tasted delicious, so surely this wiggly red stuff in the pretty bowl would be especially yummy.  Anticipating a wondrous taste treat,

his dinner was soon finished and he was ready for his “bassert”……jello for the first time for dessert!  Excitedly his Mommy put the bowl of jello before him and everyone watched as he took his first bite.  ‘Well, do you like it?” asked Uncle Kevin.  “Mmm”………..said Jonathan as he took a first bite.   Trying again,  anticipation mounted and now he had everyone’s attention around the table.  Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Kevin watched as a second  bite went in again…….”Do you like it? they all asked together………..Putting the spoon down, Jonathan looked at them and at the jello with a quizzical look on his face……Holding their breath, Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Kevin leaned in to hear Jonathan say…..

“This isn’t “bassert!” he exclaimed.  “THIS ISN”T Bassert!!!”    And the verdict was in………..Jonathan didn’t like this red wiggly stuff…….it didn’t taste like “bassert”!  Needless to say………jello would not appear on the Meyer dinner table as dessert for Jonathan ever again!

(Jonathan’s taste for dessert runs strongly towards brownies……..and jello definitely didn’t taste like brownies to him and so it was obvious jello was NOT dessert!)

  •   Good friends are those you can sit and read a book with.   When I took this picture, Linda and I were laughing so hard.....we sneaked up  behind our guys to snap this, they were oblivious, until we walked in front of them.
Well, it totally feels like winter today, it's freezing cold out.  There was snow on the ground again this morning and I  went in to work late today, because the roads were so slippery.  Doyle was out and said there was an accident on my way to work and suggested I go in late, I didn't need any more reason than that.  It was a slow day at work, but when its cold, it usually is.........people actually have to walk up and down the street to get to stores, not just walk down a mall.    I did brave the cold to go down to Andrea Kristina's for  some hot coffee though, it was just so cold!

After Friday Harbor and the San Juan Islands we went to Santa Fe on our way home.  We had a lovely visit with Erin and Nathan and did some touristy things, went to the Palace of the  Governors Museum and the NM Museum (which is in the back of the Palace of the Governors.  We went to the Loretto Chapel and saw the "staircase" which is so famous and went to the Farmers Market and drooled over everything orgnanic and handmade.  How I wish I were more creative!  I take comfort in the fact that at least I raised three kids that are creative even if I'm not very.  My son Christopher reminds me that I am an artist and I AM creative, I just do it through cooking and baking!  That helps a little!

It feels like it's going to snow and there is a possibility tomorrow.  Erin told me that they got two inches of the white stuff in Santa Fe yesterday morning.  There is a look to clouds that is distinctly "snowy" when it's going to snow.  I don't know how to describe it, but the clouds look like they have snow in them tonight.  All day people came in the store and talked about snow....it's in the air!

I went over to Pete and Heather's last night for dinner and to see them.  When I drove into their yard, Peter and Jonathan were out at the clothesline and I could see Peter say something to Jonathan.  He looked up as I got out of the car and when he saw me, he raced towards me as fast as his little legs and feet could go.  I let him run to me because it's so good for him to practice, and when he reached me we threw our arms around each other and gave each other the biggest hugs and told each other that we missed each other.  He didn't smile at all, but was so excited to see me and then to show me his new shoes and the fact that both of his casts are off his legs now.  I am so very proud of him and for how brave he really is.  I can only imagine really how hard it's been for him (and he's only two years and nine months old) to go through having casts on both legs and now a brace he has to wear between his legs at night, definitely uncomfortable and painful.  He has to re-learn how to walk and he doesn't normally run at all.  In fact after he ran towards me last night, Peter told me he had never seen him run so fast before.  His little legs and arms were just pumping as hard as he could go.  After dinner he asked about my braces because I told him when he got his casts off and I get my braces off, we were going to have a party!  He hasn't forgotten that.......so big plans for a party are in order here!  But watching Jonathan run towards me last night was probably one of the highlights of my life.......really!
